Pay equity* has led to significant wage increases for child care providers in Ontario. The New Brunswick government recently announced that it will do job evaluations and provide pay equity for child care providers. The process followed in Ontario had each child care centre file an examination of the responsibilities and skills necessary, supporting the profession's view that child caregiving work is not "just babysitting". Can the Ontario pay equity project serve as a model for other governments in raising wages for women?
